Privacy Fencing Can Serve A Number Of Useful Purposes
The type of privacy fencing that you choose says a lot about you. After all, not all privacy fences are the same. Some of them have a very militaristic look, evoking some type of medieval castle. Others have a stark, modern security look. They have a “don’t mess with me” look, and are good when security is their main concern. Other ones are more about internal privacy and dividing space. Wooden fences don’t necessarily look tough and dangerous, but they are difficult to get past without outright destroying the fence. It all depends on what you need.
As a privacy fence contractor, I try to give people the most choices that I can. A lot of the time, people get sold on one style of privacy fencing or another before they don’t do enough research. A lot of people go for the old wrought iron privacy fences because they assume that these are the toughest. In reality, they are pretty tough, but toughness is not necessarily the only concern. To ward off most criminals, all you have to do is make it difficult and uncomfortable for them to gain access. If your house does not look like an easy target, they will likely leave well enough alone. Privacy fencing – even if it isn’t strong enough to resist a determined struggle – will convince crooks to go and look for another target. After all, they can’t see past the fence, and have no way of knowing whether or not there is someone behind it.
Then again, for some areas tough looking privacy fencing really does make a lot of sense. If you live in a tough neighborhood, sometimes it pays to have a home that says that you mean business. Aluminum privacy fencing or, even better, wrought iron fencing, can help you to give this message. Wrought iron is one of my favorites because it combines the functionality of aluminum fences with a much more classic look. Although it is correspondingly more expensive – the finer things never come as cheaply – I think it is quite worth it for many homeowners.
Of course, for some people privacy fencing isn’t the best way to get privacy. I have met a lot of folks who abhor fences but want to be able to separate their property off from their neighbors for whatever reason. For folks like this, I usually recommend privacy shrubs. These shrubs grow a lot faster than trees, and do a great job of keeping the neighbors out.
